Empowerment Strategy

The founding shareholders believe in empowerment of people and communities. To this end, a resolution has been made wherein the equity of the company will be made available to the community radio sector via the establishment of a Community Radio Development Trust. The Trustees will be drawn from the company and senior members of the community radio stations. This Trust is envisaged to assist the stations with needs they will have from time to time, in line with the policies & procedures to be developed by the Trust. The principle of setting up this Trust, which will also be an equity partner of the company has been adopted to ensure that incentives should be derived by stations for services rendered and as well in ownership level. This will ensure that those who will be responsible for the creation of wealth for the company benefit in line with their contributions. As a company, we subscribe to the broad economic empowerment of people, and ensuring that all people and entities involved in the company are empowered, both financially and through investing in their personal development. The company will continuously tap on the expertise of the youth, especially unemployed graduates and community radio personnel in offering its services. Through this process, more and more young people who are knowledgeable but lack experience will continue to climb steps to realise their full potential.

Ownership

Serongwanyane Technologies is a registered private limited company (Pty) LTD. The partners in the company have decided to broaden the scope of the company and add a Broad Based Empowerment element that is three-fold:

a. 10% of company equity will be transferred to a Community Radio Development Trust whose beneficiaries are the selected community radio stations in the 9 provinces of South Africa.
b. Identification of a Strategic Equity Partner (SEP) who will add value in growing the company, especially by attracting private sector and national government business.
c. Setting up satellite offices with Provincial representatives. Once these representatives met the agreed targets, a portion of ownership will be ceded to them.

The company boasts of the following credentials, which will change once shareholding has been transferred to the Community Radio Development Trust and the SEP.
